How to Build a Sturdy Halfpipe

Materials Needed In Constructing A Half Pipe

The materials needed are two by four stock, eight sheet of inches wood, ten inches PVC pipe, nails, laminate, one ” screws.

Tools

The tools needed are circular saw, hammer, drill with different bits, fishing line, pen and paper and tape measure.

Steps In Creating A Half Pipe

Look for a location for your project and decide the size of your set-up. Consider the normal sizes of wood when evaluating the size of your half pipe. Start by carefully placing the frames of your project. Remember that there should be two equal sides. Create a four inches wide and eight inches long bracing framework from two-by-four stock.

The set-up’s lower portion should be in 2 parts four-by-eight with the joists of the floor space seven 7/8 inches apart. After that, place the horizontal and vertical braces. The overall height should be three inches. Create a total of 3 pieces. Place a 5″ seven 1/2″ radius curve with the help of a fishing line. This will serve as the bowl of the pipe. Build the braces of the set-up’s side parts.

Use the radius line as the basis for creating additional support. The supports for the lower portion should match up with the vertical support and base support. Connect the cross members with the pair of vertical side supports. They should have a space of 7 1/2 inches from one another. You should reinforce the members where the seams of the wood meet so that the wood will not break when you use it. Install wood decking with the help of three inches screws. Reinforce the decking ramp and the beginning platform.

Place the ramp to the wood for a smoother surface. The beginning platform should be supported by additional joists to accommodate several individuals at once. The grinding rail is the intersection of the starting area and the decking. You have to install an additional element in this area of the pipe to protect the decking and the board.

Place a block in the transition point. Use a ten inches PV pipe and use screws to place in the support frame and wood. A single screw for every eight inches will do trick. This will serve as the cushion for the transition point. Remember that the set-up needs to be easily taken apart since you need to store it away during bad weather. You can also use a cover to the set-up from rain and other elements.… Read More

Adventure Outdoors in Bled and Its Surroundings

Nothing prepared us for the beauty of Slovenia’s Bled and Lake Bled. A small town in northwest Slovenia, Bled’s claim to fame is its lovely picturesque lake and the thermal springs which have earned it exclusive spa resort status. To boot, a wealth of outdoor adventure travel activities are on offer here and in the surrounding area.

LakeBled

LakeBled, the jewel in the crown, is a picture of near perfection, a tiny island perched in its center and its castle, guarding the lake protectively from a high crag above. This beautiful lake, which is quite small, affords one of the most relaxing and lovely walks around its banks where one can take in the spectacular scenery. A visit to the church on the island is a must – public transportation is available by motorboat or gondola, but hiring a boat and rowing out is a much more satisfying and exciting experience. Overlooking the lake and perched atop a cliff, Bled Castle offers amazing views of the whole of the lake and the many valleys in the background.

Vintgar Gorge

A short drive from Bled, you come upon Vintgar Gorge, an impressive canyon whose wooden walkway built into the rock crisscrosses the Radovna River and affords great views of cascading falls and rapids. Walk in these beautiful surroundings, with the refreshing mist of the river spraying your face or take an easy white water rafting trip down the nearby river rapids. Vintgar Gorge is a superb place for adventure outdoors!

Postojna Caves

The Postojna Caves, a mere half hour’s drive from Bled, are without a doubt some of the most spectacular caves to visit. A small train takes you through approximately 4 km of the caves, where gallery after gallery of incredible rock formations in hues of black, red and bluish white astounded us. Spaghetti-like stalactites dangle from above while stalagmites appear as if candles melting in Gaudi-like structures, and in the background the oohs and aahs of spectators left gasping by the spectacle. Thin calcite curtains appear as fragile as to give an impression of fluttering voile cloth. Where the train ends, a tour on foot continues and takes you to the second of the cave’s highlights – a view of the Proteus Anguinus – the human fish, a remarkable tiny albino creature found only in these caves.

Ljubljana

Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital is only an hour’s drive away. This is a great city, small enough to explore on foot, yet classically European. Stroll its quaint streets; hike up to its castle, visible from almost anywhere in town; enjoy the lovely houses in Tarnovo and Krakova neighborhoods as you wander along the banks of the Lubljanca. Ljubljana is first and foremost, though, an outdoor town. Let the sun shine and the city’s many nature lovers are out walking, hiking, cycling and roller blading.

Bled and its surroundings, the wonderful, unspoilt mountains,,its towns and even its capital city all present the best that nature, in all its splendor, has to … Read More

Tailgate Party Success? You Need Outdoor Adventure Yard Games!

Tailgate parties (aka ‘tailgating’) are social events that signal the arrival of autumn. Usually held in the parking lot next to a stadium before a big game, the guests, sports fans all, gather around the tailgate (back end of a truck or SUV) where food is catered.

Eating and socializing take center stage. These sporting parties are fun for all ages, especially teens.

The most successful tailgate parties usually involve a bit more than eating and drinking. What’s their secret to success? Innovative or classic outdoor yard games! If you have the right outdoor yard games at your tail gate party, you’ll have an outdoor adventure to beat the band that plays at half time.

There are some basic criteria for an outdoor yard game to make it to our list of favorites for a tailgate party. The game must be readily transportable, not take up a lot of room (you need the space for the food and maybe a portable grill!), light weight, easy to assemble and most of all, fun!

Here’s a few of our top favorite outdoor yard games that are worthy of your precious tail gate time:

1. Washers: Washers is simply one of the best toss games around. It’s a great conversation opener when not everyone knows each other. Human nature being what it is, everyone has an opinion about the best tossing technique for this outdoor yard game.

The goal is simple: toss a metal or plastic washer into a cup. Depending on how competitive the players, the selected distance for the cup placement will vary. The usual placement is about 25 feet apart.

2. Frisbees: Did you know that Frisbees started when a young couple started tossing a cake pan back and forth in a Southern California park? Some passersby wanted in on the fun, the couple sold the cake pan for $25 (they cost a lot less in the 1950’s!) and the game of frisbee was born!

It is essential to have some basic ‘toss’ control so you don’t injure anyone if the frisbee travels too far out of bounds. Not an expensive toy at all which make this best toss game one that definitely delivers a great bang for the buck in terms of entertainment value.

3. Quoits or Horseshoes:  It’s debatable which came first in the world of outdoor yard games–horseshoes-with only one ringer or quoits with four. You’d be amazed at the arguments on this topic. No matter, both are great fun, and require some concentration and skill but not so much that the simple fun factor is lost in the process.

Tailgate parties are the stuff fall is made of. With the right food and especially the right outdoor yard games taken along, you have all the ingredients you need for a fabulous time to be had by all! Bring the best toss games and bring your game face. Game on!… Read More
